METRO is an official affiliate of the national SAGE USA (sageusa.org) program, providing advocacy and services for LGBTQ+ elders. This health series, occurring on the first Tuesdays from August to December, will cover the following topics geared towards educating the LGBTQ+ senior community of how METRO can help improve their health and well-being.
AUGUST: The ABCs of Hepatitis
Health Center Medical Director, Dr. Johnsen, examines the dangers of contracting Hepatitis A, B, and C. Attendees can sign up for a screening offered the following week.
SEPTEMBER: Insurance 101
Chad Ratcliffe, METRO’s Billing Manager, explains the types of insurance we accept, how they apply to prescriptions, what our referral process is for specialists outside of METRO, and more.
OCTOBER: MEN-tal Health
Alyssa Thaxton, METRO’s Director of Behavioral Health, overviews our counseling and support services, and discusses conditions that commonly affect older men.
NOVEMBER: Linkage Services
Our Linkage Program Manager, Tiffanie Gray, explains what linkage means for seniors. Those that sign up get linked right away to services provided the following week.
DECEMBER: STDs/STIs & PrEP
Lead PrEP Navigator, Christian Klimas, reviews risk factors and statistics, and programs METRO offers for prevention and treatment.
