Statement of Purpose:  This position provides programmatic assistance to the entire project and project staff.  The Peer Program Support Specialist will engage with clients through reminder calls, scheduling of appointments, follow-up calls after appointments, and completing linkage referrals for clients. This staff will also engage with clients through peer discussion sessions facilitated in conjunction with the substance abuse groups and coping skills groups. This staff will ensure that data is entered and tracked as per program standards, conduct research related to program activities and needs, assist with scheduling meeting amongst community partners as needed,  and maintain project staff schedules.   

 

Primary Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare paperwork for new clients.
  • Coordinate with case managers to obtain documentation for proof of status, primary care, identity, residence and income as required by program guidelines to access services.
  • Gather and complete demographic data.
  • Meet with clients to go over intake paperwork.
  • Send contact letters and make phone calls when needed for follow-up.
  • Verify and/or update database information based on client files.
  • Review files for up-to-date information: consents, proofs, demographics, etc.
  • Provide peer support by greeting and interacting with clients before substance abuse groups and coping skills groups.

 

Education/Professional:

  • Minimum of one year work experience within a social service setting or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driverโ€™s license and proof of insurance.
  • Must have reliable and accessible auto vehicle.
  • Must pass necessary fingerprinting and background checks.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write proficiently in English. Language requirement may vary by position.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
  • Knowledge of community organizations and resources serving individuals with HIV/AIDS.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences, varying sexual orientations, and psychosocial issues concerning the AIDS pandemic.
  • Must be able to understand and use word processing and basic computer software programs.
  • Ability to recognize and adhere to professional boundaries and standards.
