Our Mission

Established in 1993, Metro Inclusive Health is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides quality health and wellness services that are inclusive, relevant, supportive and represent the lifetime continuum of the diverse people in our community.

With active Health & Community Center locations throughout the Tampa Bay area, the centers provide premier comprehensive medical and social services. This includes HIV services and medical care, social activities and classes, support groups, counseling, health and wellness programs, psychiatric medication management, and more.

We strive to promote a healthy environment for all and foster diversity within the community as a whole, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or economic status.

A Timeline of Growth
1984

Early Responders

Began provision of services to HIV positive community of Tampa Bay through King of Peace Church.

1992

Incorporated!

Formal incorporation as Metropolitan Charities in order to expand and grow!

1993-1999

Across the Bay

Started to provide HIV case management in Pinellas and Hillsborough. Acquired Thrift Store location in St. Petersburg.

2002-2005

New Services

Added Ryan White services, HIV testing, counseling and linkage.

2005

Federally Funded

Launched substance abuse services, established U.S. Dep. of Children & Families Access Sites, and secured property.

2006-2008

Steady Growth

Expanded HIV case management services, opened Tampa Health Center, and began contracts in Pasco County.

2009

Hello, Pasco!

Opened new facility in New Port Richey. Grants and funding continue expansion of services, including inmate and re-entry programs.

2010

New Name, Same Mission

Name changed to d/b/a Metro Wellness & Community Centers. Relocated in Tampa to larger campus.

2011-2012

Big Things!

Expanded St. Pete and NPR service sites. Awarded contracts to provide new Ryan White and ARTAS services. Renovated St. Pete Thrift Store.

2013

HIV Care

New HIV Medical Care services in partnership with Comprehensive Care Center. Received future LGBTQ+ Welcome Center bungalow.

2014

Welcome!

Established LGBTQ+ Welcome Center in Downtown St. Pete — the 3rd of its kind in the nation.

2015

All-Inclusive Health

Launched Hep C & 4th Generation HIV testing, PrEP & nPEP treatment, STI testing & treatment, and on-site pharmacy.

2016

Yes We CAN

Started offering Trans Services, HRT. Rapid growth of staff and Primary Care clients. New St. Pete headquarters acquired with CAN Community Health.

2017

Major Growth

Significant new grants led to service expansion across Tampa Bay. Primary Care & PrEP program more than doubled!

2018

New Foundations

Completed St. Pete headquarters renovation and launched TeleMedicine & TeleTherapy programs. Began working toward FQCH (federal) designation.

2019

Metro Inclusive Health

Rebranded to d/b/a Metro Inclusive Health, and launched innovative Copay It Forward program.

2019

Accreditation

Received COA Accreditation and became a Federally-Qualified Health Center Look-Alike. Larger Tampa campus acquired with CAN Community Health.

2020

Support Through Quarantine

Continued to serve clients through the COVID-19 epidemic via TeleHealth, virtual programming and community aid. Tampa renovation continues.

2021

Historic Renovation

Opened new 30,000 sq.ft. Tampa campus at the restored German American Club. Provided over 4000+ COVID-19 vaccines to the Tampa Bay community.

2021

Historic Renovation

Thrift Store became inclusivitea., a new sexual health center and retail experience in St. Peterburg's Grand Central District.

The Birth of Metro Inclusive Health

Annual Reports

Every year, Metro Inclusive Health strives to increase our impact on the Tampa Bay community.

In 2020, METRO enrolled 2,408 new patients across our Health and Community Center locations, reached 2,561 youth and young adults via LGBTQ+ community programs, distributed 89,469 condoms through outreach efforts, outpaced state and national rates of HIV care and patient retention, and so much more. Through our innovative Copay It Forward program, insured patients helped us provide $485,163.89 in client assistance to the under-or-uninsured.
